Harbor Health Services, Inc.’s Working On Wellness (WOW) Team hosted a community 5K to benefit The One Fund Boston on Friday, April 11th. The event was held at the Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester and in lieu of a registration fee, a suggested $5 donation to The One Fund Boston was recommended. Overcast skies and a brief rain shower didn’t stop more than 50 runners and walkers from participating.
The WOW Team was created last year to promote healthy initiatives for employees working at Harbor Health Services, Inc. locations including Neponset Health Center and Geiger Gibson Community Health Center, both in Dorchester. After a successful employee 5K in the fall of 2013, the group decided to organize a community 5K for the spring and raise donations for The One Fund Boston, which helps support those impacted by the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
Donations made by participants (and one made by a generous passerby) totaled $350. The WOW Team looks forward to organizing more events to promote community fitness and well-being.
Special thank you the sponsors of this event: Runner ID and Stop and Shop Supermarket.
