Meet Our New Oral Surgeon: Dr. Mohamed Nadershah

Where did you receive your degree(s) from?
Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Boston University and Bachelor in Dental Medicine and Surgery from King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia.

Which Harbor Health Services, Inc. locations will you be working at?
Geiger Gibson Community Health Center in Dorchester and Harbor Community Health Center-Hyannis.

What made you want to work in a community health center?
To help treat patients that need dental care but don’t always have access to it.

What is the difference between a dentist and an oral surgeon?
An oral and maxillofacial surgeon surgeon spends at least  4 years of hospital-based training after the completion of dental school in different aspects of surgical treatment of the dentofacial structures.

What types of dental procedures do you perform?
Office procedures include: Dentoalveolar surgery including simple extraction and surgical extraction of wisdom teeth, Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Treatment, head and neck biopsies for Maxillofacial Pathology.

What is the best piece of advice that you have for patients regarding their dental health?
Early treatment can prevent the need for more complicated procedures in the future.

What are you most proud of in your career?
Being an oral and maxillofacial surgeon allows me to help a diverse group of patients with jaw deformities, head and neck cancer, craniofacial deformities, sleep apnea surgery and facial fractures.

What are you most proud of in your personal life?
My wife and our one month old daughter, Noura.

What are your hobbies?
Soccer, scuba diving and chess.

After a tooth extraction, have any patients ever requested to take their tooth home to receive appropriate funds from the tooth fairy?
Yes! It’s not uncommon, my mother in law told me that my wife wrote a letter to the tooth fairy as a little girl bargaining and negotiating what she wants for her tooth. She actually saved my wife’s baby tooth and gave it to her when we had our daughter.
